Ovulating Qu?!?

I have had two natural cycles since stopping the pill and both times I had the EWCM (quite late on in cycle... day 24 on first cycle and day 32 in other). When is it best to have ? Its difficult to pinpoint before O as my cycles are still randomly long! Should we have on the day of the EWCM and a bit after? Does the mucas mean the egg has left the ovary and on its way down the tube? And also, when should I expect my period after ovulating? Thanks!
